Search for New Musical Director

Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band has a vacancy for an enthusiastic and inspiring Musical Director who can orchestrate the powerful symphony of brass instruments, captivating audiences with every note.

We are a friendly relaxed band with a long and proud history, having recently celebrated our 125th year, and welcome players of all ages and abilities. We enjoy performing and entertaining the local community with around 25 engagements a year, spread across the whole island.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm at our band room in Queen Street Castletown.

As the Musical Director, we are looking for someone who will lead rehearsals, guide musicians to their fullest potential, and inspire them to reach new heights whilst creating entertaining and varied concert programmes.

Resignation - Ian Astill

After 25 years as a member and 5 years at the helm, the band’s current MD Ian Astill has decided to hang up his baton and has resigned as Musical Director. Ian joined the band as a youngster and learnt to play under the tutelage of the highly regarded Major J E ‘Tommy’ Thirtle, MD at the time. Over the years he has played a variety of instruments but is probably best known as a euphonium player.

The band want to thank Ian for all he has done over those years and especially for the time and effort he has put into the band since the pandemic, culminating last year in our 125th anniversary celebrations with the Castletown Brass Festival, a great event in which we were joined by all the island’s brass bands in Castletown Square.

We wish Ian well for the future.
