Southern Agricultural Show

Although the weather wasn't quite as good as it had been, it was still a pleasant day on Saturday at the Southern Agricultural Show, Great Meadow in Castletown.

A slightly earlier start saw the band playing just in front of the WI Tea Tent from 2pm till 3:45pm, and packing everything away just before the rains came at 4:30pm! Still, whilst playing it was warm, bright and calm, perfect playing conditions.

It was good to see a large crowd on the show field with a large number of people walking by the band, some taking the opportunity to sit and eat their fish and chips or ice cream right in front of the band. A bit of a distraction. There was also a spot of competition for our MD John Collings in the shape of a number of delighted in practicing their conducting skills.

With the sun shining for at least part of the afternoon, we had the usual array of headgear worn by the band, although we weren't sure if our Principle trombone player Willie Kneale thought he was in the French Foreign Legion! And as for Arthur Christian, he obviously needed an extra pair of glasses to read his music (see the pictures below).

A great afternoon with some nice playing by the band. Well done everyone.
