A big thank you to Paul Andrews, Musical Director of the world famous Wingates Brass Band, who came over to the island over the weekend of 14th and 15th March to spend time rehearsing with the band and directing us in our Subscription Concert at Victoria Road School on Sunday evening.

The weekend got off to a great start with Paul arriving on Friday and rehearsing with the full band in the evening before spending all day Saturday having one to one sessions with a large number of the band. This was followed by rehearsals Paul Andrewswith Balley Cashtal Brass and then the senior band in the evening. It was then over to the Castletown Civic Centre for a curry night, food prepared and cooked by our multi-talented Secretary Simon Court.   Sunday saw an early start (well 10am) with a full rehearsal for the band which started with us all going for a walk with Paul to do some breathing exercises! Following this we also went through a number of other techniques to help us improve stamina and volume of sound.

The early evening saw the culmination of the weekend with our Subscription Concert, during which we performed the main pieces we'd studied, Alan Fernie's Alloway Tales, and Wagners Procession to the Minster arranged by Howard Snell. We also had the solos On With The Motely played by Barbara Cole and La Belle Americaine played by our Euphonium player Ian Astill, both of which were superbly performed.

In the middle of the concert we were entertained by Balley Cashtal Brass playing the music they had studied with Paul during the weekend.

Everyone agreed it had been a great weekend and we will all benefit from Paul's advice and guidance.
