It was a sad day for the band on Friday 6th January as we said goodbye to one of our cornet players, Lawrence Quirk. Lawrence, who died on Boxing Day, joined the band in the late 1990's after having not played for a number years.

As a youngster he had started his playing career with the Salvation Army playing the trombone, and continued when he joined the RAF for his National Service, playing with the RAF band at Padgate. Then, following a period of not playing, he came along to one of the band's concerts and got the bug again.

During his time with us he became one of those players that would alawys be there, playing 3rd, 2nd and front row cornet, finishing on Repiano at a time when the band needed to bolster the back row cornets.

Lawrence is going to be sadly missed, all our thoughts are with his family and friends.
