A great weekend at the end of October, starting off with a full band rehearsal with David Thornton. However, for David it didn't start off too well. Although he arrived on the island on time, his euphonium didn't make it onto the aircraft! Thankfully it did arrive on the Isle of Man on Saturday morning, in time for him to demonstrate playing techniques and to wow us all with a few pieces!

David put us through our paces on Friday evening spending time rehearsing the march Punchinello, David of the White Rock, Variations on Laudate Dominum, and a brass band classic Poet and Peasant.

Saturday morning was spent with sectionals for the lower brass and small groups or individual lessons for those who wanted them. All available slots were taken up giving David a busy morning. The afternoon was spent in an open rehearsal, again spending time on the pieces rehearsed on Friday night.

One of the key messages David wanted to get across to the band during his visit was the importance of breathing techniques and how these can help the band improve tone and sound quality. Commenting at the end of the rehearsal, David said he was 'impressed with the quality of the sound the band was producing'.

Everyone enjoyed the weekend, which culminated in a curry evening followed by a trip round the local hostelries in Castletown!

A big thank you to David for spending time with us, and to Ian Astill our MD for arranging the trip. We're glad to say we are looking at ways of bringing David back for another visit, when hopefully he will be able to take part in a concert with us.
