17/06/2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours

“Well deserved”. That was the first reaction from the bands Principal Cornet player Brian Osborn to the news that the bands compere and Principal Trombonist Willie Kneale had been awarded a BEM in the Queens Birthday Honours list.

The award has been made for his work with the ex-Services Associations on the island. Brian also commented, “Over the years Willie has been involved in numerous societies and community groups, including the IOM FA, Hillside Avenue Residents Association and of course the banding world, and although this honour is specifically for the work with the ex-Services Associations, I’m sure other groups will agree, the amount of effort he has put in to all of these makes the honour all the more worth it”.

Willie has worked tirelessly for the ex-Services Associations on the island, especially the Royal Artillery, and was instrumental in the establishment and success of the annual Veterans Day.
