13/06/2010 - Come and Try Session

Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band played in the sunshine in Callows Yard on Sunday 30th May. It was almost too hot to play, but the members of the band endured the heat and performed well. Just prior to the concert a Castletown resident presented the band with an old trumpet which will be used to train beginners.

Following the concert, the band held a ‘try it and see’ session giving all comers an opportunity to try playing a brass or percussion instrument. A large crowd, young and old turned up for this which turned out to be most beneficial and was enjoyed by all who took part. Percussion was particularly popular. We are hopeful that we may recruit some permanent new members from this session.

Due to the success, we will be holding another session in Callows Yard on Saturday 19th June at  2.15pm. In the meantime, the band still have space available for new members, instruments are available, in particular we are looking for a bass trombone player, a repiano cornet, a front row cornet and back row cornet players. Anyone interested should contact Musical Director Rodney Evans on 832316 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The band were most grateful to Dave Boland, the operator of Callows Yard for allowing the band to play in this great venue.

Our next concert will be in the Villa Marina Arcade on Tuesday 15th June at 8pm, admission will be free. Please come along.
