16/11/2009 - Jason appointed Principal Trumpet NYO

Jason Evans, seventeen year old cornet player and son of our musical director Rodney, has been appointed Principal Trumpet in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

This is a fantastic achievement for Jason, who was first invited to join the National Youth Orchestra following an audition process in London in November 2008.  All members of the orchestra have to audition for their places each year, and Jason’s appointment follows a similar process a short time ago.

The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO) is the UK’s biggest orchestra, comprising 160 talented young musicians from all over the country. Further information about the NYO can be found on their website –

During 2010, Jason will take part in courses and perform in concerts at venues in the UK including Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool (7 January 2010), The Sage, Gateshead (16 April 2010) and the Royal Festival Hall, London (18 April 2010).  The culmination of the Summer Course, will be a performance at the BBC Proms, in the Royal Albert Hall on 7 August 2010.

Jason, who is now in his final year at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, is also principal trumpet in the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra. This is a very busy period for Jason – as well as academic studies, attending interviews and auditions for Music Colleges, he is involved in the audition process for the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
